Trending: Big Cats

I’m really into big cats and big cat patterns like dots and spots and stripes. I’m seeing them in art, on runways, everywhere! And I love it. Here are a few favorites from my Big Cats Pinterest board. Click through the images to see more from these artists.

Designer Spotlight: Agda Osterberg (1891-1987)

Sometimes you come across an artist's work that just makes you shout out loud! This is how I felt when I saw Swedish artist Agda Osterberg's amazing weaving. Behold her skillfull craft in incredible shapes and colors. I often paint florals and rounded shapes; this group of work has inspired me to stretch myself and try some more geometric designs.

Too bad I don't have the budget for that $66,000.00 runner on the right!

February Instagram Fave: Mark Otto

Wow this month is just flying by! I almost forgot to share my latest Instagram favorite with you all. As usual, I'm drawn to all things bright and colorful and Mark Otto's feed is just that.

He's a 17-year old student who showcases high school life in Dayton, Ohio with snaps of himself and friends, as well as school supplies and such against minimalist and colorful backdrops. As he said in an earlier interview with Instagram "I believe that our generation is using the Internet to make connections and showcase our art...Young adults today totally own the Internet."

Ain't that the truth!

Colorful Concepting and Live Music to Boot!

It's been rather foggy this week and I always seem to gravitate to brights the grayer the sky is. I've been using one of my favorite mediums, Dr. PH Martin radiant concentrated water colors. They are so vibrant and saturated and thoroughly satisfying.

I included a short video of a bit of my work in progress. The music you hear (way off in the background) is actually my upstairs neighbor. She happens to be an accomplished jazz singer and her piano is directly above my studio. I got to enjoy some fabulous vocal rehearsals the other day which were the perfect accompaniment  to my dabbling.
