I wake up early in the morning, make my coffee, and start drawing as the sun comes up. In the movement of my brush, I feel inspired by the hands of pattern-lovers before me…Ray Eames, Rosita Missoni, Maija Isola of Marimekko. These are women who wanted us to see the world in new ways.

There is a certain sense of optimism in that.

In every decade, patterns are joy. No matter the state of the world around us, it’s hard not to feel hopeful when you look at patterns. It’s probably why I can’t stop creating them. It’s probably why I’ve been asked to bring them to everything from huge neighborhood murals to tiny children’s clothes.

If you are a pattern lover, you are a friend of mine.
